Web Sites

NOT Monster.com or Careerbuilder. Monster.com is more effective than Careerbuilder. But even then the percentage of jobs achieved there is tiny.

Instead, you need to be showing yourself on 10 other web sites.

Interact with others in your industry.

Ask questions.

Make suggestions.

Show what you do.

Part One: General sites this can happen on are

---Facebook

---LinkedIn

---Twitter

---Yahoo Answers

Part Two: More specifically:

---Industry or field sites

---Industry or field’s magazine site

---Industry blogs

---Sites such as HARO which match reporters with experts (think that will look good on the résumé? “Quoted in the New York Times”)

---Your own blog concentrating on the insights and help you’ve given/are giving in your sector

---Your own web site

Answers.com has higher traffic than Yahoo Answers. But the answers are collaborative (like Wikipedia). So, worst case, someone can come in and mess up your careful work. Since you don’t want a prospective employer to see incorrect or inferior work, Answers.com is probably not appropriate for your web visibility.
